Top 10 Interview Tips

  1. Remember, most radio and television stations, depending upon geography will NOT fly you in but choose to interview you over the phone. So ALWAYS be ready for "THE CALL"!
  2. Always research the company that you are applying at. This is almost a given in the broadcast industry as most prospective radio and television people will be aware of the station that they are applying to.  The internet makes it easy to aircheck stations particularly radio, so there is no excuse for not being familiar with the station's formatics and personalities.

“My only hobby is laziness which naturally rules out all others.” Granni Nazzanno

What’s your “thing”? My thing is motorcycle riding and safety. My listeners all know I ride a bike and this spring my station ran (and sold!) a motorcycle safety PSA I wrote and voiced. It’s not the only thing I’m about but it’s part of my persona and it sets me apart from everyone else on the air in my market. When there’s a big charity bike event, I get invited to take part where those at other radio stations won’t be included because they don’t ride. So what’s your “thing”? Make it part of your show and it will open up a new world of possibilities – and listeners – to you.
