“The future has already arrived. It’s just not evenly distributed yet.”
William Gibson
Social media is here to stay. Facebook, Twitter and the rest don’t appear to be passing fads; they’re essential communication and marketing tools. And you’re letting an opportunity pass you by if you don’t get on board!
- Excuse #1. I don’t have time
It takes only a few seconds to add a new status update. Invest an hour in creating your page, adding photos etc, and then a couple of minutes of daily maintenance will keep it going after that.
- Excuse #2. All of those websites are for kids! My listeners don’t use them.
People over 50 – especially women – are the fasting growing new users of social media. Younger people have been there all along. Older demos are catching on and catching up!
- Excuse #3. What’s the point? Why would I want to bother with it?
The point is connecting with people by showing off your wit, becoming a source for information they’re interested in and increasing sampling of your radio station. You’d have to attend dozens of rubber chicken dinners to connect with as many people as you can reach with one tweet. It really does work!
