  1. Whether it is a radio or television tape, always ensure that your good material is front loaded. This way, a busy program or news director won't be reaching for the off button earlier than you like. They are busy people and if you have weak material early in the tape, it could be deadly. Radio differs from t.v. in that radio tapes can be edited more freely.  Television auditions should not be sent if the cast includes a weak intro or voice-over close to the start.
  2. Never send too long of an audition, for the same reason as above.  If you force the prospective employer to want more, then you have won. An old showbiz ace named Ernie Kovacs once said, "always leave them wanting more".Two minutes for radio with production and appropriate length for television.  E.G. Anchor and reporting samples shouldn't exceed five minutes.
  3. Watch the slice and dice. Never over-edit an audition for the best bits.  This mostly applies to radio. Many people have made the mistake of sending too slick of an audition tape and couldn't live up to their billing!  Awkward!...
