Simon Says: You're outta here. Creator Simon Cowell has cleaned house on the set of X Factor, firing host Steve Jones, weepy judge Nicole Sherzinger and alloweding Paula Abdul to walk, reportedly at her request. Any broadcaster would wonder how Jones could survive even one year of the talent show. Jones made Ryan Seacrest look like Dick Clark. Personality sells and obviously there was little to be found with Jones as emcee. Cowell is a smart man. He will likely follow the blueprint of his successful "Idol" and hire a popular big market U.S. announcer to fill the spot. One more opening for a radio person is a good thing. There's something to be said for hiring a communicator to "communicate." The surprise departure is Abdul, who was brought in by Cowell from their American Idol halcyon days. The moves leave only Cowell and L.A. Reid standing.
