Madonna promised a scandal-free half-time show a la no wardrobe malfunction and she almost made it. The day after the 53-year-old Material Girl's glitzy show at Superbowl 46, there was a glitch but she can't be blamed. British rapper M.I.A. would give the middle finger salute to the network cameras, but who caught it? Well it was on NETWORK CAMERAS. M.I.A., who along with Nicki Minaj was guesting on the performance of Madonna's new single "Give me all your Luvin" couldn't be heard over the crowd but NBC noticed, calling it "disappointing." The rapper's publicist called it a "case of adrenaline." What's that old show biz adage about "any publicity....? ." And 110 million viewers won't hurt!
An FCC spokesperson said Monday that each affiliate station that showed the game could land a $325,000 fine. Early overnight ratings also show a healthy viewership spike during halftime, with bigger numbers than the game. On a personal note, as an old deejay watching now 53-year-old Madonna...I recall working at a 10,000 watt radio station in 1983 and one of our announcers bringing in this new single called "Holiday" from someone named Madonna. We didn't have the '45. We played the only copy we had, from "Reel to Reel". GULP!
