Soul Train creator Don Cornelius was found dead of an apparent suicide early Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. Soul Train helped break down social barriers and introduced television audiences to some of the industry greats like Aretha Franklin, Barry White and Marvin Gaye. Cornelius was the first host and executive producer. Soul Train began in 1970 on Chicago's WCIU-TV as a local program but would be aired nationally from 1971-2006. The show's highlight was a dance line which quickly became a part of American Culture and is now a big part of wedding receptions and parties. Cornelius was 75. He was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
